Welcome to Portobello! This digital audio walking tour gives you a first hand guide of Portobello with historical personal stories of the people who lived here along with independent local recommendations of where to eat, drink and visit.
Portobello, or beautiful harbour, is a south inner-city suburb of Dublin, it was originally orchards and farmland with early settlements dating to 700AD. It was established in the 1800s as a new suburb for those who wished to escape the overcrowding of the city. Today it is a small parish, less than 1km squared, with about 10,000 permanent residents with students, young professionals and families contributing to its community feel.
Through this audio walking tour you will be immersed in tales of the lives of saints and rebels, lovers and artists, writers and presidents, who lived here through significant times in Irelands history giving you a special understanding of Irelands complicated journey towards independence and modern day Ireland.
